Unprecedented Volume Milestones in FY 2024-25
DP World’s International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) in Cochin has once again set an all-time high-volume record, handling an impressive 834,665 TEUs in FY 2024-25. This marks an 11% year-on-year growth from the previous record of 754,237 TEUs achieved in the last financial year. The transshipment volume also reached a historic milestone of 169,562 TEUs, reinforcing DP World Cochin's role as a key trade hub in South India.
Strong Performance Across Business Segments
DP World Cochin achieved significant volume growth across multiple business areas:
1. Foreign exports and coastal exports witnessed remarkable increases.
2. Reefer volumes saw substantial growth, meeting rising demand for perishable goods transport.
3. The terminal successfully handled the highest single-vessel volume transaction, further showcasing its operational efficiency.
4. With 640 vessel calls in the year, DP World Cochin remains one of the busiest ports in South and East India.
Strategic Infrastructure Expansion for Enhanced Capacity
To support its increasing trade volumes, DP World Cochin expanded its infrastructure, implementing key upgrades:
1. Introduction of new Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes for improved efficiency.
2. Deployment of electrified Rubber-Tyred Gantry Cranes (e-RTGs) to optimize cargo handling.
3. Expansion of yard space, raising the terminal’s total capacity to approximately 1.4 million TEUs.
4. Power infrastructure upgrades from 3 MVA to 5 MVA to ensure seamless operations.
5. 100% electrification of yard cranes and the integration of an in-house solar plant, significantly reducing the carbon footprint.
Handling Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs)
Over the past year, DP World Cochin successfully managed multiple Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs), each exceeding 350 meters in length. This underscores the port's ability to accommodate growing trade demands while enhancing global shipping connectivity.
Kerala’s First Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) Achieves New Milestone
The Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) at DP World Cochin, India’s only such facility within a major port, recorded a milestone achievement by handling 2,255 metric tons of cargo in FY 2024-25. This reinforces its significance as a catalyst for trade efficiency and regional economic growth.
Industry Leadership and Commitment to Excellence
Commenting on these achievements, Praveen Joseph, CEO of DP World Ports & Terminals, Cochin, stated:
"We had another successful year in our endeavor to become the most preferred gateway port for the South Indian market. Along with capacity expansion, we were able to bring in new solutions like the Free Trade Warehousing Zone to support the growth ambitions of the regional Exim and Coastal trade. We will continue to focus on ease of doing business, fast delivery times, high productivity, and sustainability to benefit the trade. Building on this positive momentum, we will strive to strengthen the synergies between our terminal operations and the Free Trade Warehousing Zone. We appreciate the excellent support provided by the Cochin Port Authority in enabling us to reach new milestones."
