Strengthening Environmental Commitment

Ocean Network Express (ONE) continues to lead by example in the global maritime industry with the launch of its new Ship Recycling Policy. As the company expands its owned fleet, it is equally prioritizing the safe and environmentally responsible decommissioning of vessels reaching the end of their operational lifecycle.

Implementation of Responsible Ship Recycling Practices

As part of its broader Green Strategy, ONE has officially implemented a Ship Recycling Policy that ensures all vessels are dismantled at certified, reputable recycling facilities. These facilities must operate in compliance with international standards and regulations, aligning with ONE's mission to reduce its environmental footprint and promote ethical operations.

Joining the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative (SRTI)

To reinforce transparency and accountability, ONE has joined the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative (SRTI). Through this alliance, ONE will publicly disclose its ship recycling practices, supporting industry-wide efforts to promote voluntary data sharing, improve sustainability, and drive responsible recycling operations.

Michimasa Noda, Senior Vice President, Sustainability at ONE, stated,

“The development of our Ship Recycling Policy, together with our participation in the SRTI, marks a meaningful step forward in our ‘Clean Ship Recycling’ initiative – one of the seven key pillars of ONE’s Green Strategy. We remain committed to fulfilling our responsibilities as a shipowner and to promoting safe, environmentally sound, and socially responsible ship recycling practices across the maritime industry.”

Aligning with Global Standards

This progressive move aligns with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC), which will come into force on June 26, 2025. The HKC mandates that ships be recycled without causing unnecessary risks to human health, safety, or the environment—a principle that ONE wholeheartedly supports.

A Milestone for ONE’s Green Journey

ONE’s latest announcement reflects a deeper integration of sustainability and stewardship into its corporate ethos. By establishing rigorous policies and joining industry-leading initiatives, ONE sets a benchmark for responsible ship recycling—ensuring that the final phase of a ship’s life is as green and ethical as its operation.
